::CONSTANTA::

Constant is the third largest city of the country and the biggest port on the Black Sea coast. The first documentary evidence attests toits existence in the 6^th Century B C under the name of Tomis , the Greek colony.

Attractions:

The main tourist attractions of the city are:

-the Romanian Edifice with Mosaic ( 4^th Century) in Ovid Square, where the poet’s statue is located –1887, the building was formed of 3 terraces that made the connection with the old port;

-the 5 ancient basilicas (5^th and 6^th Centuries

-th Genoves Lighthouse ( 1858-1860) wich was in operation until 1913

-the Orthodox Cathedral (1883-1885) in Greek-Catholic style

-Sf Gheorghe Church (1915-1928) painted by Nicolae Tonitza

-the Casino (1910-rehabilitated in 1995) located on the seafront

-the Hunchiar Mosque (1868) built in Moresque style

-the English House (1881-1882)

-the Aquarium -containing approximately 300 species of fish, mostly from the Black Sea

-the Astronomic Observatory

-the Microdelta - the reconstruction of the Danube Delta a replica of the ‘Danbe Delta Museum’ of Tulce
