‘’If You know how beautiful my country is!’’ ith these words, imbued with both prideand nostalgia, the great Romanian painter, Nicolae Griorescu, challenged his colleagues nd friends in Paris t make a journey to his homeland, Romania.
With thes words, this classical painter was therefore defining a country, whose colors,forms and perspectives embodied the very essence of picturesqueness.
Only later on, during the long romantic talks of that epoch- we are in t second half of the 19 thntury- the young artist explained e detailes: the smooth Carpathian Mountain, registered by history before some of the other European mountains becouse of their riches like gold or antic Sphinx culture ; the hills covered with orchards and vineyards; the long roads in the plains wich reachedthe banks of the Danube, the old river that repesents e southern border of Romania .
Beautiful flowers have impressed travelers who ve reached Romania sinc the mist of time. The are accompanied by rich wildlife, wherefrom the protected plats –monuments of nature- are not missing but also a faun with eceptional samples of stags and bears, of chamois, lynx, wildboars, crowdsof birds and butterflies.
Caves and waterfalls, mineral prings, glacial lakes, impessive megalitic rocks, gorges ,field covered with daffoils of peonies, rive where trekking adventure may be experiened on board he modern boats and also rafts – all these reprent the many luring landmarks for the traeler of any age.
The Romanian of churches, abeys and monasteries is alo a beautiful and elevating country, be these institutions Orthodox – the rligious belif of the majority of te population – Greek Catholic, Romano Catholic, Islamic or Jewish.
The Romania of villages is definitely amazing with its rites and with an atmosphere that has been reserved since archai times not only in museums, but in the lively daily way of living of he people, with a conquering gastronomy and with unique songs.
